Ken Willner

Chief Executive Officer

A veteran marketing and digital media executive, Ken has been actively involved in the development of mobile as a media platform since 2002. Having held senior leadership roles at national advertising agencies, a Fortune 500 company and emerging media organizations, Ken truly brings a 360-degree view of the marketing and media landscape to Zumobi.

As Chief Executive Officer, Ken leads an experienced team in the development and growth of Zumobi's mobile media business. Prior to Zumobi, Ken was Vice President of Advertising and Media at AT&T Wireless, where he developed a number of innovative marketing programs to stimulate consumer adoption of mobile content and applications.

One of his most successful programs was the American Idol media sponsorship, where he was the driving force behind an integrated marketing campaign widely recognized as the seminal event that popularized text messaging in the United States. Earlier, Ken was Founder and Vice President of Marketing at Fizzylab, an early entrant in the contextual search and advertising space.

By developing marketing programs and partnerships with leading digital media companies, Ken helped grow Fizzylab from a garage start-up to a company with more than 50 media clients in just 15 months. Ken began his career in the advertising business and held senior management roles at national advertising agencies including McCann-Erickson and Rubin Postaer and Associates (RPA). During this time, he led the development of advertising and branding campaigns for leading consumer companies including The Walt Disney Company, Hitachi, Washington Mutual Bank, WebTV and Domino's Pizza, among others.

Ken graduated from the University of Washington with a B.A. in marketing. He is on the IAB Native Advertising Task Force and is a member of the WINMEC Media and Entertainment Advisory Board at UCLA.

Wade Tsai

Chief Technology Officer

Wade brings over 21 years of world-class engineering and management experience in a variety of areas such as embedded systems, performance-based advertising platforms, gaming, big data, and mobile computing. Wade endows an enduring love of computing to his role, having grown up hacking systems, coding programs on his Apple II, building early community-driven messaging systems and architecting online games, before commencing his professional career at IBM.

Prior to joining Zumobi, Wade was on the senior team at BlackBerry, where he managed BlackBerry Messenger’s client security services and was responsible for leading several cloud-based solutions for the BlackBerry 10 platform. During his tenure, Wade drove the initiative to bring computer vision capabilities to the BB10 platform, beating Amazon’s introduction of its “Firefly” feature by more than a year. Wade has also held a variety of senior leadership roles at Decide, Kiha Software, Marchex Inc., and Go2Net.

Wade has a B.S. in Computer Science and Electrical Engineering from Louisiana State University, and an MBA from Loyola University.

John McCormick

Vice President, Sales

John runs Zumobi’s national sales efforts and oversees the East Coast personally. He joined Zumobi in April 2016 to bring Zumobi’s unique branded Microzine solution to the marketplace, having been the executive director of sales at The New Yorker among other positions at Conde Nast. John served as the Global Director of Digital Advertising & Strategy for more than two years at National Geographic, as well ad sales and marketing roles at Time Inc. and ESPN.

John’s background in marketing enables him to develop large-scale programs with the client’s goals at the heart of the partnership. While an executive director in Conde Nast’s corporate division, he orchestrated the company’s first-ever global-content agreement, with Samsung. A native of New York City, where he remains based, John is a graduate of Hamilton College and a 10-year board director of the Financial Communications Society (FCS), where he serves as programming chair as a member of the FCS’s executive committee.

Team Z

Cole Peterson

Principal Product Engineer

Cole Peterson has 15+ years of software experience building applications, leading projects and delivering solutions.

Cole has a passion for using technology and creativity to shape digital experiences and solve problems.

Before Joining Zumobi, Cole was a Technical Director at POSSIBLE Seattle, where he built applications for companies that include AT&T, Coca-Cola, Converse, PayPal, and many others.

In his free time, Cole spends his time rocking the northwest and putting out albums with his band Sweet Water.

Liz Fendell

Director of Account Management

Liz has 13 years of experience in the digital advertising space with roles in both Account Management and Revenue & Ad Operations. As a client advocate, Liz’s main priority is to ensure clients are happy not only with the final product but also with the process & the level of service they receive. Liz spent nearly 8 years at Disney Interactive managing the cross platform campaigns of strategic accounts such as Verizon, Minute Maid, Disney Parks, etc. The white glove service she adopted and displayed while at Disney has carried over to all aspects of her work at Zumobi, evident by the positive relationships formed and high renewal rates. Outside of work Liz loves spending time in Seattle playing beach volleyball on Alki or wake surfing on Lake Washington. She’s also an avid fan of college football & college basketball. Liz holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology, a minor in Pre Law and a Master of Science degree in Organizational Development.

Scott Smutz

Director of Accounting & Financial Analysis

As Zumobi’s “number cruncher” for over 10 years, Scott is dedicated to providing accurate and insightful accounting and analysis for shareholders, partners, and customers, alike. But that isn’t all. Scott was even Zumobi’s very first Ad Operations Manager. He has over 25 years of professional experience, with long stints at great Seattle-area companies, like Holland America Line, Western Wireless, and Zumobi, providing analytical services in leading roles in Accounting, Finance, Business Development, and Marketing. In other words, whatever job needs to be done, he does it. Although, his beautiful wife of 20 years would like him to do more laundry. Between Zumobi, his wife, and their three wonderful children, Scott is as busy and fulfilled as anyone can imagine, and he’s very grateful to have them all in his life.

Craig Yamada

Director of Revenue Operations

Craig has 13 years of experience in the digital advertising ecosystem including agency, ad serving and programmatic backgrounds. He has held roles predominantly in client services and account management. Craig spent 7 years at Razorfish as both an Account Manager and an Associate Director that serviced strategic clients such as Nike, Windows Phone and Xbox. He has also held strategic leadership positions at Adap.tv/AOL and Genesis Media managing programmatic demand and supply relationships. The high level of client service and leadership adopted from his previous positions has carried over to all aspects of his work at Zumobi. In his free time, Craig loves spending time with his wife and 2 year old daughter. You can also find him cruising the streets on his electric skateboard! He is also a die hard fan and alum of all University of Washington sports. Craig holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration, with a specialization in Marketing.

Christian Bannick

Revenue & Operations Specialist

Christian has spent the last 4 and half years here at Zumobi. Working most recently working as a Revenue and Operations Specialist responsible for managing Zumobi's media campaigns. Outside of work he is passionate about sports and spending time with his family and friends.

Dan Devine

Sr. Platform Engineer

Dan is currently riding herd on Zumobi’s web services stack after initially joining the team as a mobile developer in 2016. Dan brings 17 years of mobile and server-side development experience to deliver solutions that perform well in any environment. Dan has worked at all levels of the software ecosystem, ranging from embedded firmware through cloud-computing, and has published several mobile applications for Android. Although Dan has worked at many of Seattle area’s tech giants, he thrives best in a startup culture where wearing multiple hats is the norm and pragmatic solutions are a must.

Evan Deininger

Front-End Developer

Evan is a front end developer who’s made the switch from UX/UI design. His involvement in developing the flagship product, The Microzine, made for an easy transition into the development team where he has proven to be a key contributor and team member.

Justin Scharwat

Senior Software Test Engineer

Justin has been passionate about technology for as long as he can remember; building his own computers, customizing linux kernels, Arduino® projects and so on. Unsurprisingly, he’s also a “gamer” and especially enjoy strategy, puzzle, and problem-solving games. During his free time at Zumobi he’s been afforded the opportunity to combine some of his interests and hobbies with his work life. Both while doing his primary responsibilities as QA, as well as when expanding his responsibilities and knowledge in other domains such as IT and OPS.

Lucas Reller

Revenue & Ad Operations Specialist

Lucas has been involved in the advertising industry for several years now and has enjoyed the ever-changing landscape. His work has ranged from trafficking campaigns to monetizing publisher revenue. When Lucas is not working, he enjoys traveling and playing any sport the Seattle weather permits.

Vinaya Gopisetti

Front-End Developer

Hello, This is Vinaya Gopisetti. she is a developer. She spends her whole day, practically every day, experimenting with HTML, CSS, JavaScript and React to make Zumobi Microzines look awesome! She’s enthusiastic and enjoys work that challenges her to learn something new and stretch in a different direction.

She moved to USA from India a few years back, Before moving to Washington, She lived in Florida, Texas, Tennessee, Georgia. Finally made it to beautiful Seattle to call it home.

Thomas Huseby

Chairman of the Board

Tom spent the first seventeen years of his career at Raychem Corporation where he started in Sales and held a variety of executive positions in Europe, South America and the U.S. His last position at Raychem was Group Vice President and General Manager of the Industrial Products Group. Following Raychem he was the first President and CEO of Innova Corporation, a Venture backed manufacturer of digital millimeter wave radios that went public in 1994. Tom co-founded and was the first CEO of Metawave Communications Corporation, a manufacturer of cellular infrastructure equipment which went public in 2000. In 1997, Tom formed SeaPoint Ventures an early stage Venture firm. Tom is currently Chairman of the Board of Airspan, AutoGraph, Glympse, Mojix, Photobucket and Zumobi. He is past chairman of Qpass, SNAPin Software, Telecom Transport Management and a past board member of Tegic Communications and Kineto Wireless. In addition to his duties at SeaPoint Ventures, Tom serves as a venture partner at Oak Investment Partners.

Tom has a BA and a BSIE from Columbia University and an MBA from Stanford University.

John SanGiovanni

Co-Founder, Director of Advanced UI

John has more than 20 years of experience as a product strategist, user interface architect, and technology entrepreneur. Prior to founding Zumobi, John was a Technical Evangelist for Microsoft Research, where he led external academic research funding in the areas of mobile technologies and user interfaces, and invented Microsoft’s Tile-based homescreen metaphor, now used on hundreds of millions of devices worldwide.

As an influential thought leader and mobile industry expert, John’s articles have appeared in numerous publications including VentureBeat and GigaOM, and he has presented at industry conferences around the globe including: Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity, MIT Venture Capital Summit, ad:tech and TEDxSeattle.

Recently named as the one of the most creative people in mobile advertising by Business Insider, John has authored and co-authored more than 20 patents in the areas of mobile UI, hardware interfaces, and interaction techniques for wearable devices. A vocal advocate for hybrid left-brain/right-brain learning, John was once in the opening cast of Disney’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle stage show, where he learned the timeless insights of showmanship and the importance of always focusing on the customer experience.

John has a Bachelor of Science from the University of Florida, and always writes the word “Design” with an uppercase D.

Paul Schaut

Member, Board of Directors

Serial CEO turned professional Board Director, experienced in working with public and private companies anchored in technology and the convergence of digital with traditional marketing, at various stages of company lifecycles. Current board engagements include: ShareThis, Zumobi, Networked Insights, Omnilync and Fluid.

Paul brings more than 30 years of sales, marketing and executive management experience coupled with a deep expertise in technology, digital and mobile marketing industries. Paul’s portfolio of board services help CEOs and investors leverage his operational experience and network to assist in board and / or management alignment, business development expansion, M&A strategy and execution along with the many other daily challenges faced by CEOs.

Steve Coffey

Member, Board of Directors

Steve Coffey is a managing director of Covera Ventures and has more than 25 years of investment experience with companies at all stages of development. Steve currently serves on the boards of directors for Innography, Photobucket, and Zumobi. Steve was a director or actively involved in such companies as Airspan (NASDAQ: AIRN), Softricity (acquired by Microsoft), SNAPin (acquired by Nuance), SiGe Semiconductor (acquired by Skyworks), Hubspan (acquired by Liaison Technologies), iTKO (acquired by CA Technologies), Alert Logic (acquired by Welsh Carson) and Metreos (acquired by Cisco). Steve was previously president and managing director of Hunt Ventures and established the Austin office in 1999. Prior to Hunt Ventures, he was vice president of Hunt Financial Corporation, where he evaluated and managed investments in public equities, private equity and venture capital partnerships, and direct investments in both early stage technology companies and buyouts. Earlier in his career, he worked as an associate at Davis Venture Partners, a private venture capital firm where he worked with both early and later-stage portfolio companies. He previously worked at EDS Corporation and Arthur Andersen, LLP. Steve has a BS from Oklahoma State University and an MBA with honors from The University of Texas.
